University Hospital Foundation Awarded Grant to Support Expectant Mothers

We are proud to share that the University Hospital Foundation has been awarded funding from the Jewish Women’s Foundation of New Jersey (JWF-NJ) to launch Taking the Pulse on Pregnancy: Expanding Access to Blood Pressure Monitors for Expectant Mothers.

High blood pressure is one of the leading—and most preventable—causes of pregnancy complications. Yet, for too many expectant mothers, access to a blood pressure monitor at home is out of reach. This simple tool can make the difference between catching a life-threatening condition early or facing an emergency.

Through this grant, University Hospital will place blood pressure monitors directly into the hands of pregnant women who need them most. With the ability to check their blood pressure at home, mothers will have peace of mind, and providers will have critical information to intervene quickly if something is wrong. The result: healthier pregnancies, safer deliveries, and stronger starts for babies.

As New Jersey’s only public safety-net hospital and Level 1 Trauma Center, University Hospital is deeply committed to closing health gaps and improving maternal outcomes. We are grateful to JWF-NJ for their partnership and investment in the health of women and children in Newark and beyond.
