Meet the Team at University Hospital Foundation: Shikera Usher, Intern
My name is Shikera Usher (she/her). I was born and raised in Newark, NJ…here at University Hospital as a matter of fact! I am a former Educator and current student at Rutgers University Newark’s School of Public Affairs & Administration (SPAA). I am a nontraditional student in the Accelerated Master’s Program, earning my Master of Public Administration with a focus on Non-profit and For-profit Management, and a minor in Non-profit Budgeting/Finance. I am the proud mom of one adult daughter who currently enjoys a very fulfilling career as a dedicated Speech and Language Pathologist.
This semester I am interning with The University Hospital Foundation as an assistant to both Joni, the Grants Manager, and Victoria, the Director of Development. I am beyond pleased to help with planning the Toast for Our Heroes fundraiser in support of the amazing healthcare heroes dedicated to making a difference by giving their all in hopes of saving the lives of others. I am also looking forward to assisting the planning and execution the Golf Fundraiser to raise monies to support the UHF’s ability to further extend their available services to those in need.
University Hospital has been an integral part of my life: my family and friends have been patients and visitors for years. Our interactions have always been pleasant, and we’ve had many great experiences. When the opportunity to intern presented itself I was more than happy to apply. I wanted to intern for UHF, in part, for the chance to learn from and work with some great folks; everyone here is dedicated and hardworking with great energy. It’s such a great team to work with! I am excited for the opportunity and I genuinely look forward to coming into the building and spending time here.
