The University Hospital Foundation's annual Toast & Tribute is more than a celebratory evening, it is an opportunity to pause, connect, and recognize the partnerships that make progress possible. Each year, the event brings together donors, volunteers, clinicians, and community advocates who share a commitment to advancing health equity and strengthening care at University Hospital.
This year, the Foundation was honored to recognize Dr. Lisa Gittens‑Williams, whose leadership has helped expand access to safe, compassionate maternal health care for families across Newark and beyond.
The evening featured remarks from Carole Johnson, President and Chief Executive Officer of University Hospital; Calvin R. Ledford, Jr., President of the PSE&G Foundation and Chair of the University Hospital Foundation; and Dr. Gittens‑Williams. Together, they reflected on the importance of collaboration, sustained support, and shared responsibility in improving patient care and addressing community needs.
What truly defined the night, however, was the presence and engagement of those in attendance. From longtime supporters to new friends of the Foundation, guests brought thoughtfulness, curiosity, and a genuine belief in our mission. Toast & Tribute served as a reminder that meaningful progress is not driven by any single program or individual, but by a community of supporters who choose to stay involved and invested.
Held at the Avenue A Club in Newark, the venue's character and history provided a fitting backdrop for a gathering rooted in community and shared purpose.
We are profoundly thankful to everyone who made this evening possible and look forward to the next opportunity to gather, celebrate, and advance this important work as we continue to build a healthier future for our communities.
